Earthquake in Christchurch.

Hi there, as some of you may already know, yesterday there was an earthquake in Christchurch, greater than 6 in the scale of ...?... and more than 65 deaths.

We are OK, still very far away from there. Hope to post something in the near future, but WiFi is difficult to find in the areas that we move.

Cheers to everybody, Daniela & Juanma.

Sydney!

The opera house, some skyscrapers, the very expensive apples, and a hiking track that we have done today. 15km walking around cliffs and surf- beaches. Very nice! See if you can find Daniela on the cliff picture...

We fly tomorrow in the mornings to New Zealand!

Cheers!!

HOT Updates coming from Australia (literal sense)

Hello people, take some time to read the following, it resumes a week from us!

After several days incommunicated (WiFi networks are worse in Sydney than in Thailand, read more saturated) I am back writing some lines (and later uploading some pictures).

We met our Indian friend (and her mother) in Krabi (still south of Thailand), went to spend a nice day/night in Tonsai Beach (the you see in the panoramic pictures). It was really nice and not so saturated with tourists, more of an 'alternative'way. It was actually a paradise for rock-climbers!

We found some monkeys on our way to the beach. This time they looked not so wild. We rented in the morning a Canoe for three ours (200BAHT=5€), and went around several little islands, really nice and clear water.

Later we decided to take a bus direction Bangkok (590BAHT=15€), it would take around 12hours! But it was much more confortable than expected, with a German movie (in Thai...) and some other on-board served snacks. They gave us water, juice, muffins, blanket, coffee...and a dinner, included on the price, amazing!

Once in Bagkok we looked for some rooms, but was difficult, actually a lot of hostels/hotels were fully booked. Luckily at 1pm, shortly after the tourists decide whether they stay or not, we found a room on our beloved D&D Inn, in Khaosan Road. Having a swimming pool on the roof works very nice to combat the heat.

We had a nice guide giving us a free tour for half a day through Bangkok. We visited the very interesting and old Temple Wat Arun. See pics in the next post. It is completely decorated using chinese porcelain!

We also walked around some chinese areas, since it was the Chinese new years day, and Bangkok hosts lots of chinese people. We also saw in a market, some water-snakes , Turtles and fish, which you could buy alive to release them free, so that supposedly you improve your karma...Looks pretty bad, this bussiness...(also picture from that).

Something that we really liked was visiting a Portuguese Cake factory, hidden in the very inside of the little streets of Bangkok. By telling them that my father was a Baker, we could get in there and take some pictures. It was interesting the way they were baking the cakes. They made themselves the owen and said they were not using eggs, baking powder nor yeast. The muffins were tasting relatively good and with a nice structure.

After so much walk, Daniela took again another Thai massage (4 in total I think...) and I tried to discover how the Thais managed to scam me with a faked 32GB memory stick. I have to tell this story...

They were selling memory sticks from Transcend Datatraveler 101, 32GB for 25€, which I assumed thay may have been either stolen or faked. I told the woman I would buy one if I could test it. So we went to next door shop, which had a WIndows PC and I have seen how the stick worked and reported 32GB size. Surprisingly, the next day in the laptop of our Indian friend, I was impressed to see that even the size was reported as 32GB the stick was actually smaller. The data was somehow being dropped after writing more than 5GB...weird I though.

Made some test and realised it was actually a fake. They have managed to fake not only everything from the outside (case, labelling...) but they have even reprogrammed the memory controller chipset to report a false size to Windows! "My God"-I thought-,"that's the last thing I buy in Thailand". So be aware! If I am lucky, I will get my Money back, let's see.

After this trouble, we took the plane to Sydney. It was again one of those huge Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) which fit like 480 people. And guess what, we met a man who was Austrian, but was living in Gandia for 30years, and he was the owner and the one who firstly brought the tipical car-like bycicles that most tourist rent in Gandia! Isn't that funny??

Once in Sydney, our first impressions were: HOT,EXPENSIVE. But we still managed to get tickets for the Opera Hause in the Harbour, and yesterday (Saturday) we saw an interpretation of "Carmen". Really impressive!

And not less impressive was the heat, readings of 42degress Centigrades, and a sun which was melting everything. Daniela wished we would have 6degC and rain, just for a day... And we almost got it, today we were on Bondi Beach, planning to combat the heat, but had to come back to town because it was to cold, and raining (20deg).

Just to make a picture of the Expensive part of Sydney, a Kg of apples (from Australia) costs 8$ (=5.6€). We also bought yesterday a 2Liter water bottle from a supermarket and was 4.5$ (3.6€)!! We are looking forward to go to New Zealand!

Kind regards from Daniela and myself, and sorry for the long post.

By the way, you are even busier than us? Or how come we get no single comment on our nice pictures!! No comments = no future updates. ;)

Some deep blue...

Hi people, just some minutes left on the internet cafe, until we fly to Sydney this evening. I though I could upload several pics from underwater, from our little adventure in Koh Phi Phi. Some refreshing pictures for those of you who are "suffering" the European winter.

I will probably write on the plane some more words for a new post, resuming everything from Thailand.

Cheers!

Juanma.
